Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the fear barrier to innovation David. We just can't imagine how many wonderful and life-enhancing innovations we could be living with right now if only a few more people had the courage to push through the barrier.

Despite living in an advanced technological culture, we forget we are still just animals. So we underestimate how much of our fear is an artifact of our evolution, both biological and social. Our brains are not significantly different biologically from those of our ancestors tens of thousands of years ago. Fear served humans well then because there was so much more real danger -- fear of predators, aggressors and fear of being ostracized from the collective safety of our tribe. Then, fear was a matter of life or death. Now it's not but our brains haven't evolved to make that distinction. Today, would-be world changers are too often paralyzed by a fear of embarrassment that feels just as threatening as a hungry lion. The dangers are no longer real but the fear - both biological and social - is.For more on this, read The Iconoclast by Gregory Berns. The Rotman school at the University of Toronto recently published an interview with Gregory Berns - Iconoclasts: Great minds think different http://www.rotman.utoronto.ca/integrativethinking/Iconoclasts.pdf

And now that I've used this posting as one more excuse to avoid my own hungry lion, it's time to get back to just doing it.

Hi David,

Stumbled upon this article while searching for something on google. I see that you have mentioned that the image was taken in 2005 world cup. But was it not in 1995 , south africa won the rugby world cup.

Thanks,
Priya
